The York County Industrial Development Authority has selected ARM Group of Hershey to be environmental consultant on a plan to acquire and redevelop part of the Harley-Davidson site in Springettsbury Township. The authority said ARM was selected in part because it is familiar with site conditions on Harley's West Campus.

The West Campus of Harley's local manufacturing site is to be sold some time in 2011 to the local authority as Harley transitions all local production to its newer Softail plant on the eastern side of the property.

The restructuring plan was unveiled when Harley decided in December to stay in York County instead of move the local vehicle assembly operations to Kentucky as a cost-saving initiative.

The restructuring also comes with hundreds of job cuts, bringing a workforce that ended 2009 at roughly 1,900 production workers down to around 700 to 800 full-time production positions once restructuring is completed.

The YCIDA said it plans to purchase the property for about $500,000.
