How Mentorship and Meaningful Work Shaped a Career at ARM Group
People Behind the Project - Wendy Pelky, P.E.
Vice President, Natural Gas Services – ARM Group
At ARM Group, leadership isn’t just a title; it’s a mindset built on trust, growth, and ownership. And Wendy Pelky, P.E., Vice President of Natural Gas Services is a great example of that.
Wendy’s story is more than a career path. It’s about how mentorship, hands-on experience, and a culture that invests in people helped her go from project engineer to executive leader, while bringing others along with her.
“ARM Group’s mentorship and collaborative culture helped me grow
into leadership,” Wendy says, “It’s a place where you’re both challenged and
supported to do your best work and keep learning.”
From Engineer to Executive: A Career Built with Purpose
After graduating from Penn State with a degree in Environmental Systems Engineering, Wendy launched her career in environmental consulting. She joined ARM Group in 2007, eager to work with clients facing complex environmental challenges.
Wendy’s career path progression
- 2007: Recruited as a Project Engineer focused on solid waste design, permitting, and construction management
- 2009: Promoted to Project Manager while applying her engineering experience to address the needs of ARM’s first natural gas clients.
- 2010: Began recruiting and mentoring new staff for the State College and newly established Canonsburg and Wilkes-Barre offices to meet the growing needs and pace of Appalachian natural gas development.

- 2019: Joined the ARM Enterprises Board of Directors and was named Vice President of Natural Gas Services, overseeing major energy infrastructure portfolios and
Wendy now leads a team performing natural gas projects across Pennsylvania, West Virginia, and Ohio for a variety of public and private, upstream, midstream and downstream clients. Her work is technical but grounded in clear goals: environmental responsibility, client trust, and team growth.
Mentorship in Motion: Building the Next Generation
Wendy credits much of her growth to the guidance she received early on from senior leaders who didn’t just hand down knowledge; they involved her directly in big-picture thinking.
Now, she pays that forward every day.
In 2019, Wendy was part of a small team that created a coach-based Career Development System that would replace ARM Group’s historical annual review process. This system was designed to foster a people-first, relationship-based, forward-facing process for coaching staff throughout their career with ARM Group. Coaches help their direct reports map out a path to achieving their career aspirations and align those aspirations with the business plans of the Enterprise and their business unit through semi-annual goal setting. Wendy strongly believes all good things are rooted in supportive relationships.
“When you care about and support your team members,
they rise to and exceed the challenge.”
What Makes ARM Group Different?
While many companies talk about career growth, ARM Group builds it into the way work gets done. For Wendy, that came down to a few key differences:
- Real project ownership: From early on, team members are trusted to lead site visits, coordinate with clients, and contribute to long-term planning, not just complete tasks.
- Support without bureaucracy: In Wendy's own words, “ARM Group is unique in that it’s small enough to remain transparent and non-bureaucratic but it also includes a series of industry-leading experts to help mentor staff along the way. I always had someone listening to, teaching, and guiding me to where I wanted to go next.”
- Cross-discipline collaboration: “One of the things that sets ARM Group apart is the ability to work alongside experts from many different practice areas. You’re not siloed here; you’re supported by a full team.”
- It’s this balance, serious technical work, and impact with room to grow, lead, and mentor that has kept Wendy at ARM Group for nearly two decades.
Wendy’s journey is more than an individual success; it’s a reflection of ARM Group’s approach to building careers that matter. It shows what’s possible when technical challenges are matched with mentorship and opportunity.
“I’ve stayed at ARM because every year I’m doing something new. I’m solving problems for my clients, building things that last and impact communities, and
helping others grow into leaders. That’s incredibly rewarding.”
